Prysmian Cables in Great Britain

Prysmian Cables in Great Britain

At the factory in Southampton, Great Britain, an energy-efficient 24-hour steam supply is required during the cable production process. Operating pressures up to 29 bar (g) are required for ensuring the proper adhesion of the product during production.

Prysmian Cables is a globally leading provider of high-technology cables for energy supply and telecommunications. The Prysmian Group has several production facilities in Great Britain.

At the Southampton facility, CERTUSS steam supply is used as a heat exchanger for the manufacture of cables requiring high temperatures.

Requirements on CERTUSS

  • Efficient provision of steam during peak loads, as well as off-peak loads
  • High-pressure steam operation from 29 bar (g) in the manufacturing process
  • Steam output of up to 1,935 kg/h

Requirements

At the Southampton location, 3 older steam boilers whose maintenance had become inefficient and expensive were to be replaced.

Solution

The new CERTUSS steam generators offer a degree of fuel-steam efficiency of over 93% and achieve full steam output in around 3 to 5 minutes. This, along with reduced maintenance and testing time, led Prysmian Cables to choose CERTUSS as the best option.
